- λίβανος, ου, ὁ (=the frankincense tree Hdt. et al.; = the resinous gum Pind.+; cp. Phryn. 187 Lob.) frankincense, a white resinous gum, obtained fr. several kinds of a certain tree in Arabia, used both medicinally and for sacral purposes (EMaehler, ZPE 4, ’69, 99; Zohary, Plants 197). 1 Cl 25:2; Rv 18:13.
